Urinary incontinence is nothing more than the lack of control over the bladder, which implies an abundant leakage of urine that can be mild in some cases and more abundant in others, it can affect anyone from women to men to children and adults, however it can be seen more accentuated in the elderly, women being the ones who are most affected by it. It usually occurs when the muscles become weak or on the contrary are very active, when these muscles weaken it becomes very difficult to keep the bladder sealed, so an accident of this type can occur when laughing or lifting heavy objects .

The main causes are the weakening of the pelvic floor muscles, which are responsible for keeping the urethra properly closed, when said tissue loses the ability to stretch, the simple act of laughing, lifting overweight, coughing and running can cause uncontrolled loss of urine, in women the main causes are during pregnancy, when giving birth and in menopause. During pregnancy, pressure can be exerted on the uterus and bladder, in addition to this during childbirth, a great effort can be made that ends up reducing the effectiveness of the pelvic muscles, causing incontinence during and after pregnancy. it can even affect women long after delivery.

Another cause is what is known as neurogenic bladder, this being the most common cause of incontinence, especially in patients with diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease. In cases of overflow incontinence, it occurs in people of the male gender, especially the elderly, commonly with prostate problems.

The most frequent symptoms of this pathology are the involuntary loss of urine when performing daily actions such as a simple sneeze, the practice of sports, coughing and even while having sexual intercourse. Specialists in the field recommend maintaining a balanced diet, thus avoiding gaining excess weight, which prevents pressure from being exerted on the lower abdomen, avoiding the intake of beverages such as soda and coffee, also helps reduce the risks of urinary incontinence.
