The main ideas represent or express essential information for the development of the topic in question. For example, in the fable “the hare and the tortoise”, the main idea is:

Secondary ideas express details or aspects derived from the main topic. Often these ideas serve to expand, demonstrate, or exemplify a main idea. For example, in the fable «the lion and the morrocoy», the secondary idea is:

The use of secondary ideas does not mean deviations. There is an important point to differentiate what is the main idea of ​​a text from what is secondary. A main idea is one that, if the rest of the paragraph were removed, would still have the same value and meaning to itself. On the other hand, the same does not happen with the rest of the ideas.
